'Fifty Shades of Grey' Stars Open Up About Filming in the Red Room

Just in time for the film’s Feb. 13 release, Fifty Shades of Grey stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson are gracing the cover of Glamour magazine and opening up about their turn-ons and on-set insecurities.
"Dakota was everything that I wanted in Anastasia," the film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson told the magazine of casting college student Anastasia Steele. "She has a strong sense of who she is, but at the same time there’s a sweetness about her."

One way Taylor-Johnson helped her stars conquer their nerves about some of the racier scenes in the film adaptation of E.L James’ massively successful erotic novel was saving the most intense moments for the end of production. This included much of the material in the "Red Room," the BDSM playroom owned by Dornan’s character Christian Grey.
"I didn’t go to the sex dungeon," Johnson confessed. "I wanted to keep myself distanced from it at first because I wanted Ana’s reaction to certain things to be completely honest and real, like new."
"Some of the Red Room stuff was uncomfortable," Dornan admitted. "There were times when Dakota was not wearing much, and I had to do stuff to her that I’d never choose to do to a woman."
