New claims: Scientology leader sabotaged Tom Cruise's first marriage to Mimi Rogers
More details are surfacing about the effects of Scientology on one of Tom Cruise's relationships and it's all pretty scary. Or should we say, allegedly scary?! (Don't chase after us, Scientology lawyers). In the latest revelations, hailing from the new HBO expose Going Clear, is that church leader David Miscavige consciously split Tom Cruise from his first wife Mimi Rogers.
The reason? Her dad, Phil Spickler was seen as a "squirrel", which isn't a fluffy tree animal but someone who practices Scientology on their own, away from proper counsel.
"It would be one thing to have Tom Cruise as a trophy for Scientology, but it would be a disaster if he became a walking advertisement for the squirrels," Going Clear author Lawrence Wright said.
Unfortunately for Mimi, she was the one who pushed Tom to join the Church of Scientology, hoping it would curb his "playboy ways". That kind of backfired.
Despite the pair divorcing, Former Church of Scientology executive Marty Rathbu revealed: "Nicole (Kidman) had got her claws in, and Miscavige was now worried that she was going to lead [Cruise] away."
Cruise married Kidman in 1990 and they split in 2001. RadarOnline.com previously reported that the Church of Scientology allegedly used a number of "intimidation tactics" to orchestrate their divorce.
