Happy Birthday: Kunle Afolayan Turns 41!

Today happens to be the birthday of one of Nigeria’s biggest filmmakers and actor, Kunle Afolayan.

Kunle Afolayan is 41 and was born into a family that had a strong movie background.

His father is Ade Love (Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan), popular theater and film director and actor in the 70’s and 80’s.

In 2005 after studying at the New York Film Academy he released his first movie The Figurine in 2009.

Today, Kunle Afolayan can be regarded as one of the leading movie directors in Nigeria if not the most prominent out of them all.

His other movies are Phone Swap, and October 1.

He is married to Tolu Afolayan with 3 kids.

John Dumelo Giving Out Full Scholarships To Brilliant But Financially Limited Ghanaian Students

Hunky Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, went on his Instagram page to proudly announce that he intends to give out full scholarships to brilliant Ghanaian students who cannot afford to continue their education because of financial limitations.

According to the talented star, John Dumelo Foundation is looking to sponsor those who have achieved extremely good grades and are looking to enter into Universities or Colleges in Ghana but cannot afford.

My Mother Felt Bad When I Started Plaiting My Hair – Nollywood Actor

Actor Brown Igboegwu bares it all in this exclusive; he talks about his wife, his accidental entry into Nollywood and his family’s reaction when he started acting.

“I found myself in Nollywood by accident. I never intended to act,” he told This Day.

The actor said he got into the field by chance and hasn’t regretted his move.

Igboegwu explained that he was in Asaba to hang with his friends on his birthday and so ran into a movie crew on the night.

“Then we stopped by to watch them,” he said. He later ran into a member of the production crew in the course of watching and it turned out they had known from way back.

Somehow, luck smiled on him and he got a slot to play a role or two on the night and he hasn’t stopped ever since.

“I played [my role] properly and I was paid a huge amount of money. I was shocked because I didn’t know actors were well paid.

“I just told my friends that I have found myself a very good business. That was how I became an actor,” he said in the This Day exclusive.

Igboegwu is known for his ‘bad boy’ role in movies but this doesn’t interfere with his romantic side.

He said this of his wife: “She is a very caring woman, intelligent, God fearing, generous and honest. I mean she is a mother, a friend, a companion and somebody who can stand by you in any situation, most especially when you are in trouble. She is my strength.  Any time I need her she is there for me. That was the first thing that got me attracted to her. And when I went deeper, I discovered she is a wonderful person that cannot be let go; so I married her.”

It hasn’t been an easy journey for the Anambra native but expressed joy in the level he’s reached today, even as he hoped for greater success.

The actor recounts the hurdles he had to scale before his mother became convinced that he was meant to be an actor.

She was uncomfortable with his hairstyles, even as his siblings also joined in questioning his motives for acting after successfully completing a university education.

“When I started acting, my father was already late and my mother was not comfortable with it, especially when I started plaiting my hair. She was asking when I started such stuff. Sometimes, when some girls come to our compound to make my hair, she will be sort of upset. But when it started going out well she was forced to start liking I,” he said.

Brown Ifeanyi ‘Browny’ Igboegwu, 39, is a Nollywood actor and businessman. He began his acting career in 2005 with the movie Expensive Error.

He graduated from the University of Nigeria where he read Public Administration and International Relations.

Ini Edo Set To Unveil Her Nightclub Tomorrow, Wednesday 30th! [PHOTOS]

Veteran Nollywood actress and divorcee, Ini Edo is officially opening her nightclub in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

The talented single actress called it Mimz Lounge and she will open her new jewel on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.

Apart from the nightclub, they will also be serving an array of African and Continental dishes at its restaurant, plus exotic drinks; to crown it all, there’s a rooftop lounge.

The launching will be hosted by Cool FM’s OAP and hypeman; Dotun, with several A-list celebrities expected to grace the event.

The event kicks off by 7pm with a black carpet reception.

Mimz is located on Durosinmi Etti drive, opposite Carol Court before Dowen College or 52a Omorinre Johnson Street, Lekki Phase 1.

Lizzy Anjorin Boasts, Says “I Can Never Ever Go Broke”

Famous Yoruba movie star, Lizzy Anjorin has reacted to latest rumors that she has closed down her shop in Ogba, Lagos because she is bankrupt.

In a chat with Nigeria Films, the actress denied reports she has gone broke, she also says legal action will be taken against the site that described her shop as a place where cheap liquor is sold.

“What do you want me to say? I’m a woman, not just a woman, I work hard, I can never ever go broke Insha Allah. It shall be well with people that wish me well and it shall never be well with people that wish me bad. God will never bless them for wishing me bad and they will never be congratulated in their entire life” she furiously said.

“Their grace shall turn to disgrace, their blessing shall turn to bad luck, their joy will turn to everlasting sorrow, both the singles and married ones among the people writing bad about me shall bury all their kids with their bare hands Insha allah amen. How Sadiq Daba Emerged Africa’s Best Actor

Nigeria’s seasoned actor and broadcaster Sadiq Daba has been adjudged the Best Actor in a Leading Role as Inspector Danladi Waziri in Kunle Afolayan’s thriller, October 1, at the 11th edition of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) held Saturday night in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

At the glittering ceremony, Daba was announced the best ahead of Tony Kroroge (Cold Harbour); Sdumo Matshali (INumber Number); Abdoul Kareem Konate (RUN) and Gerard Essomba (Le President).

During the night, Afolayan’s ‘October 1’ also clinched awards in two other categories: Best Nigerian Film and Best Costume Design.

Nollywood stars, Ini Edo and Queen Nwokoye lost out to Angola’s Lesliana Pereira in the Best Actress in a Leading Role. Pereira’s role in the movie, “Njinga: Queen of Angola” fetched her the AMAA 2015 statuette.

AMAA 2015 Best Actress in a Supporting Role went to Hilda Dokubo (Stigma). Kemi Lala Akindoju won the Best Promising Actor for her role in the movie “Dazzling Mirage”. She shared the honour with Hassan Spike Insingoma who thrilled in Uganda crime drama “Boda Boda Thieves”. Best Comedy Film was clinched by Ayo ‘AY’ Makun’s “30 Days in Atlanta”.

Mauritanian Abderrahmane Sissako shone brightly at the ceremony as his film “Timbuktu” clinched the highest number of awards. Sissako emerged the Best Director with his film also won AMAA 2015 Best Film and Best Film in an African Language. Timbuktu also won in the Best Editing category. The Best Child Actor honour went to Layla Walet Mohammed and Mehdi A.G Mohammed – Timbuktu.

Also on AMAA 2015 honour list was Mauritius’ Lobraz Khan who won double statuettes for Best Sound and Best Cinematography.

South Africa’s “iNumber Number” won the Best Visual Effects and Best Production Design. Best Actor in a Supporting Role went to Samson Tadesa for his delivery in “Triangle Going to America”; Best First Feature Film by a Director was won by Destiny Ekeragha for “Gone Too Far”; Best Make-up: Njinga: Queen of Angola – Angola and Best Soundtrack: Triangle: Going to America – Ethiopia.

Others are Best Screen Play: Le President; Best Short Film: Twaaga – Burkina Faso; Best Animation: The Legacies of Rubies – Nigeria; Best Documentary: Egypt Modern Pharaohs – Egypt; Best Film by an African Living Abroad: Fevers – France/Morocco and Best Diaspora Short Film: Sound of Tears – Canada. The Best Diaspora Documentary award was won by “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution” – USA; Best Diaspora Feature: Supremacy – USA.

Special Jury Award went to Le President – Cameroon and Triangle: Going to America – Ethiopia.

Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed on Tony Vander Heyden and Posthumous Award was bestowed on late Oronto Douglas, a top aide of former Nigeria president, Goodluck Jonathan.

Africa Magic and Kingsley Ogoro were both awarded Special Recognition by AMAA organisers.

Elated Dayo Ogunyemi, AMAA CEO thanked everyone especially filmmakers and the audience for making this year’s AMAA a success. It was first AMAA awards night to be held outside Nigeria.

Kenyan Oscar Winner, Lupita Nyong’o Says Her Mum Is Pressuring Her To Get Married

Kenyan superstar actress and Oscar award winner, Lupita Nyong’o has revealed that she’s under silent pressure to start a family.

Lupita says like many women in their 30s, her mum is already giving hints.

In a recent interview with Vogue, the 32-year old has revealed she hasn’t found that man she wants to have kids with at the moment.

“This is my conundrum. When I was back in Kenya this past week, I would be driving along with my mother and she would say, ‘That’s a nice school for children’ and look at me like (raising eyebrows). My mom wants me to have children now. But I think that will all be determined when I have that moment. When I have that man.”

Lupita broke up with rapper K’naan in 2014 and hasn’t to be seriously dating since then.

Segun Arinze Slams Emeka Ike Over His Claim As AGN President, Says He Should Stop Doing Nonsense

In a new chat with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Rubbin Minds, veteran Nollywood  actor, Segun Arinze slammed Emeka Ike.

Segun said Emeka should stop doing nonsense because he’s not the AGN President.

Arinze said,

“Let’s get the facts straight. President Muhammadu Buhari came on the platform of APC, went through nominations, he ran against former president of the country and became president of Nigeria. How would we have felt if he came out and started saying he is the president of Nigeria, he takes the Quran and swear that he is the president of Nigeria. There will be chaos and the country is divided. That was what Emeka Ike did.  

I was president of the guild, duly elected in Port Harcourt and succeeded Ejike Asiegbu. All the State Chapters came to Port Harcourt, where we had this election and I became the president. He had an intention, because there was a division then between Ejike and Board of trustees so aligned with the. When I came I brought everybody together and he was told to become the Vice President. I told him after my tenure, he can go through the proper procedure and go in for the office.

“We made him Vice President South East, he said no he wanted to be president. He went to Adeniran Ogunsanya took Bible, Holy book of God and started swearing, without buying a form, going through screening or anything. Emeka should wake up and stop all these nonsense. He should grow up Ibinabo Fiberesima is the bonafide president.

“Even in the judgment that came out recently telling us to return to status quo, what does it mean? We were told to go back to the way we were. There was no time Emeka Ike was pronounced the president of AGN. Let him bring out the copy of the judgment and show us if he is man enough. He should wake up and stop embarrassing the guild.”

Game Of Thrones Series Wins Big, Breaks Record At The EMMY Awards 2015… See Full Award List

The highly anticipated 67th Annual Emmy Awards held on Sunday night, with the Game of Thrones series winning the award for outstanding drama series.

Not only did Game of Thrones capture the award for drama category runner-up streak, but the series picked up Emmys for outstanding supporting actor (Peter Dinklage), writing (David Benioff and Dan Weiss) and direction (David Nutter) on Sunday night.

With a total of 12 Emmys this year (including eight won at the previously held Creative Arts Emmys), Game of Thrones broke a major record by surpassing The West Wing to take home more TV Academy awards in a single year than any other show.

The husband to Toyin Aimakhu and fellow Yoruba movie star, Adeniyi Johnson, was involved in a car accident over the weekend.

The Nollywood star crashed his Nissan Jeep and shared the photo of his wrecked jeep on his Instagram yesterday (September 20).

Adeniyi Johnson bashed his jeep when he was trying to flee from armed robbers.
